Drum Making Immersion

This full-day ceremonial immersion in Gloucester is an opportunity to create your own 14-inch hand drum from start to finish. Often called a “buffalo drum,” each drum is made with a hide chosen based on availability, which may include buffalo, deer, horse, cow, or elk.

The day blends hands-on drum making with reflection, intention, and ceremony. Participants prepare and personalize the drum frame, lace the hide, make a drum beater, and may add prayers, inscriptions, designs, or small crystal points along the way.

The immersion opens and closes in sacred space, with gratitude offered to the materials and spirit helpers involved in the process. There is also time for journaling, oracle reflection, and personal intention, as well as guidance on caring for the finished drum and instructions for a Drum Awakening Ceremony.

The experience is led by Grace “Medicine Bear” Walsh, a longtime Reiki practitioner and Reiki Shamanism Master Teacher whose work brings together energy healing, ceremony, and shamanic practice.

No prior drum-making experience is required. The immersion runs approximately 10 AM–5 PM at Flowers & Stars Shop in Gloucester.

Registration is due by September 21. Visit the event website for full details, registration information, and other upcoming offerings.
